For the past nine years Maica has taken a leading role in San Francisco's annual Dia de los Muertos celebration. This year she joins The Marigold Project to produce Festival of Alters, where over 15,000 people from all over the bay area will participate in this Meso American tradition.

In addition to her community projects Maica teaches aerial dance, trapeze and clowning to children ages 4 to 14, and their parents at the Marsh Youth Theater in San Francisco. In 2006 Maica began teaching movement to middle school students throughout the San Francisco Unified School District. This fall Maica forays into higher education, co-teaching a class with Theresa Dickinson at the New College of California in San Francisco.
